Meet Debra Wilson

Educator, community member, and parent. Lived in Holmdel for 18 years and proud parent of two sons currently attending Holmdel High School. Received a B.A. in Education from Loyola University Maryland and a Masters of Education in Administration and Supervision from Rutgers University. Freehold Township teacher for 22 years including kindergarten, fourth grade, and intervention services to support students who need additional instruction and targeted support to strengthen their reading and language arts skills. Member of the Intervention and Referral Services team, Curriculum Writing team and School Safety team collaborating with colleagues to identify student needs, recognize trends, and develop proactive strategies to support student success. Volunteer with local organizations to give back to the community 

Why I’m Running For Holmdel Board of Education

Listen First. I believe it's important to understand the experiences and perspectives of students, parents, teachers, staff, administrators, and community members across all of our schools. While my own children have attended Holmdel schools from kindergarten through high school, I recognize that every family and every school has a unique perspective. I want to learn what is working well, where there may be opportunities for improvement, and how we can continue building on the district's strengths. Student Centered Decision Making.  I believe that all decisions should be made through the lens of student impact. I believe we should ask thoughtful questions, review outcomes, and focus our resources on programs and opportunities that make a meaningful difference in students' academic success, well-being, and overall experience at Holmdel schools. When difficult choices arise, student impact should remain at the forefront of the conversation. Thoughtful and Responsible Financial Decisions. I understand that Holmdel families expect both excellent schools and responsible spending. I believe in asking questions, reviewing results, and making sure we're getting the most value from the programs and services we're investing in. Before adding something new, we should understand whether what we're already doing is working. Strengthen Collaboration and Community Trust. I believe the Board of Education should communicate openly, seek input from the community, and make decisions based on facts, data, and thoughtful discussion. Even when people disagree, they should feel heard and understand how decisions are being made. I believe I can bring a balanced perspective, listen to a wide range of voices, ask thoughtful questions, and help make informed decisions that support Holmdel's students, families, staff, and community.
